Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius temperature by 9, divide by 5, then add 32. So 20°C becomes 20 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 68°F. To go the other way, subtract 32 first, then multiply by 5 and divide by 9. The converter does this for you and shows all three scales at once.
What temperature is the same in Celsius and Fahrenheit?
Minus 40 degrees is the same in both scales: −40°C equals −40°F. It is the one point where the two scales cross, which is a handy fact to remember and a quick way to sanity-check a conversion.
What is Kelvin and when is it used?
Kelvin is the absolute temperature scale, starting at absolute zero, the coldest possible temperature. It uses the same size of degree as Celsius, so a change of one kelvin equals a change of one degree Celsius; 0°C is 273.15 K. It is the standard scale in science.
Does this work offline and is anything sent to a server?
The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with no connection. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many conversions you make.
